NetRep – the aha moment
NetRep – It sounds like just another fancy word, used by geeks and salesmen to act smart and get your attention.
If that is what you thought, you would be exactly 100% correct. In fact it is the most fancy word, the most important word and the word that will make or break a brand in today’s marketing climate.
Focus your attention on the word – NetRep – but don’t think that its just another word, because you would be making the biggest mistake of your career.
Lets define NetRep in layman’s terms: NetRep is the perception that people get about you, or your brand; based on information acquired from, or shared on the Internet.
Reputation is Reputation, it can be good or bad and both are equally as important to a consumer when they make a purchasing decision.
A company may have 10 million satisfied customers and 100 dissatisfied customers; however if the dissasisfied customers all choose to air their grievances online – then the company has a public relations disaster on their hands. Especially in today’s fickle marketplace.
They will moan and complain and tell their stories to all their friends on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter. They may write bad reviews on consumer interest sites and newsgroups and before you know it, the GrandDaddy of the Net- Google, picks up to the “buzz” and searches every server and PC online for similar stories and promotes these negative stories to the top of their search listings.
Google is that intelligent and has no mercy, fear or favour; if the subject is buzzing, its considered important and these are the stories that make it to the first page of Google.
Do you browse past the first page or two of search results ? I doubt it,. If you did, you are in the minority.
While we are on the topic of Google’s intelligence, if you think that you can copy and paste some complimentary articles to a few news groups and make a few posts on Facebook, that’s where you are wrong.
Goggle’s algorithms are designed to pick up on this and they will most definitely count against you and in-fact, promote the unique and “natural language” that is so important to Google. If these are negative, that is what will be found when people search for you as an individual or for your brand or company.
Lets face it, if you searched for “Mollys Guesthouse” and the first page or two were people complaining, would you book in there on holiday ?
Of course not.
That’s why NetRep is so important and why I don’t need to sell the concept to you anymore.
